Cairnfield House

  • Rest home
  • Respite Care

The original Cairnfield House was built in 1904. It is a double gabled villa with a return verandah around three sides of the house, complete with balustrades and fretwork. The structural condition is excellent and apart from a new roof, the house is in it’s original state, including some of the wallpaper. The refinement and elegance of the place remains striking with imitation marble fireplaces still remaining although not in use.

The first extension for the conversion to a rest home was added in 1988 (Puriri & Rimu wings), a second wing (Totara & Kauri) was added in 1998 providing large luxurious size rooms with ranch sliders that open onto spacious decks. More recently, in November 2008 another wing (Manuka) was added providing the latest and most modern in rest home facilities including large rooms with a shared ensuite consisting of a shower, toilet and hand basin. The residents in this wing enjoy a private dining room with access to a private deck. These wings are designed to cater specifically for different client needs and enable harmonious placement of the resident while providing increased nursing efficiency.

By a policy of adhering to individuals preferences, self motivation and self esteem are retained. With a relaxed atmosphere willing, long serving staff add valuable input from the residents (via the residents committee). The result - a rapport of friendship that is Cairnfield House.
