Centred on amazing grounds, Brittany House’s grandeur is guaranteed to impress
Our residents and families rest assured knowing that our team at Brittany is providing class-leading care. We are proud that Brittany House currently holds 4 year certification from the Ministry of Health, placing it within an elite group of homes independently assessed as providing very high quality of care.
With a long record of serving the residents of the wider region of the Hawkes Bay, Brittany House is an indispensable part of the local community.
Brittany House boasts what we believe are the biggest and best grounds of any free-standing Residential Care facility in New Zealand. Covering an impressive 1.3 hectares, our residents enjoy walking trails, rose gardens, aviaries, as well as uninterrupted views of college playing fields. Situated a mere 1.5 km from town, residents and families don’t have to compromise convenience when choosing Brittany House.
While the numerous buildings cover an exceptionally large scale, some of the have been decommissioned. This makes the building safer for our residents, as our staff concentrates their efforts within a more manageable physical space. This also allows us to focus our works within a space that will provide the maximum benefits for residents.
Our bed rooms are all of an especially large size, and provide plenty of living space for added comfort. The large size of our rooms is unusual in Residential Care homes, and is just another great feature you’ll enjoy at Brittany House. We have flexible accommodation options available, including single, couple, and companion rooms. No matter what your needs, we are confident we will have room that’s perfect for you.
If you’re looking for exceptional care in the Hastings or Hawkes Bay area, in a truly unique setting, then look no further than Brittany House Residential Care.
Life in our Home
In a home where many residents live, it’s important to us to celebrate your individuality, make you feel valued, and respect your contributions.
Whether you want to read, paint, enjoy the outdoors, or almost any other thing imaginable, our care focusses on creating an environment where you have both the time and support to do what makes you happy. Our activities program is designed to give you a way to be part of the social life in the home, and also to do what you enjoy.
Activities programs are daily events staff facilitate with residents based on their preferences. Upon admission, our Activities Coordinator will work with care staff to understand your needs, and incorporate your preferences into the overall activity program.
Our unique activities program is run on a daily basis, and planned a week in advance. This means our residents and families can see what activities we are planning, and even make special requests.
Our activities teams regularly organize mobility vans or other transport to take residents out for special events. Some residents have complex levels of care, making it difficult for them to participate in activities. In these cases, we make every effort to move beds and wheelchairs into communal or outdoor areas, and to do what we can.
Please ask the Manager about how we can accommodate you preferences in our activities programs.
Our EMC Program
If you are concerned that your loved one is experiencing isolation, loneliness, and depression in their current rest home because of their medical circumstance, then you owe it to them to come and see the EMC rooms at Brittany House.
The Extra Mile Club (EMC) is a special Residential Care program designed to meet the higher-level care needs of your elderly loved one.
Due to the way some people age naturally, or following a significant medical event in their lives, your loved one may have developed complex needs that traditional residential care programs cannot adequately cater for. This is why have developed the EMC program - to provide them with a better alternative, suited to those needs.
With a personalised range of tools such as activities facilities, physiotherapies and more, our residents enjoy social interaction and services – and all of this is delivered within the controlled and manageable environment of a large shared room with plenty of communal space.
But what really makes EMC the best place for your loved one is our specially trained staff, attending to residents around four times longer than what is realistically possible in a traditional residential care setting. Time really is the most precious gift we can give these residents - and you can be assured your loved one will be safe, understood, and receive the love and attention they deserve within our EMC.
Our success in better meeting the needs of these most vulnerable residents has been commended by the Hawkes Bay District Health Board, and supported by independent audits, as well as being noted by the New Zealand Aged Care Association in their 2013 Awards program.
As we felt these residents were not adequately catered for in the residential care system, we went the extra mile to design a program and environment that delivers great standards of care for this small but significant group. For this reason, we call our program the ‘Extra Mile Club’, reflecting the extra effort we make to give these residents the same options and outcomes as others.
As EMC is a program best suited to someone with specific care needs, please contact or visit us today to find out if EMC is right for your loved one. Don’t settle for residential care that isn’t meeting your needs.
Testimonials
"Since being at Brittany House, I have naturally noticed many changes in Mother as I visit her several times a week and we have always had a warm and wonderful relationship and are very close to each other.I never in my wildest dreams thought she could make the adjustment to a Rest Home, so it was surprising to say the least when this happened in a very short space of time. The main reason for this has been Rose and her wonderful, ever expanding Activities Program. Mother very suddenly took on a second lease of life and many parts of her nature began to change.
She has taken a real interest in life in general and genuinely wants to participate in things, where as before she had been rather reclusive and often left things for other people to do for her. She has developed a real sense of independence and of herself. Her attitude now is to take each day as it comes, to try and take something out of everyday and to take the best of opportunities offered to her. She now has acquired this great sense of fun and adventure and will take part in things that before neither of us thought she would do. She has a great zeal for life and learning and takes an extremely active part in things – regardless of the results. She has really amazed me and I give her my total support for whatever she wishes to try and be a part of." - Judy's Daughter
"I have lived here for four years and enjoy every day. After all we are a family home – look after one another – if that is not love, what is? Here at Brittany House there are people coming here for the first time from other homes, but it's not long after moving in before friendships start up very quickly." - James
