Selwyn Wilson Carlile was founded in 1951 as part of the social outreach work of the Diocese of Waikato and the Church Army.  In 1972, a Trust Board was established to run it, and expansion of the facility began. In August 2008, the Village came under the ownership and stewardship of The Selwyn Foundation.

The 1.0 hectare site includes a rest home, hospital and ten independent living villas.
