History:
Howick Baptist Healthcare is an independent charitable organisation that was founded in 1977 by the local Howick Baptist church. Since then, the organisation has grown to include a range of community and residential services.
Our Mission:
We will provide older people with care services that are excellent, compassionate and responsive.
Rest Home: Our Rest Home is a modern 32 bed facility. All rooms open onto a garden, deck or patio and have an ensuite. The rest home has 24 hour medical and registered nursing coverage.
Respite care: (short term care) Respite care at rest home level is available to give family caregivers a break or to assist in recuperation after a hospital stay.
Hospital: Our 97 bed hospital provides 24 hour registered nursing and medical care for those needing a higher level of support. Spacious rooms have either full ensuite bathroom or ensuite toilet. TVs are supplied.
Physiotherapy is an important part of the total care in our hospital with a registered physiotherapist and trained assistants encouraging residents to improve their mobility and physical functioning to maximise health and well-being.
Activities: Our registered Occupational Therapist and trained assistants encourage residents to maintain independence in daily activities and enhance their quality of life. A wide variety of activities, entertainment and outings are available which encourage residents to keep old skills or learn new ones.
Social Work: Our Social Worker is available for support and can advise on a range of assessment and planning options to assist you with decision making now and into the future.
Chaplaincy: Our Chaplain supports residents and families by offering pastoral care. Church services are held weekly. We respect each person's beliefs, faith and culture.
Volunteers: Volunteers are an important part of Howick Baptist Healthcare and keep residents connected with the wider community. They assist with activities, the library, the shop, chapel services, outings, and friendship/companionship. All volunteers are interviewed, reference checked and trained.
Day Programme: Our Monday to Friday service welcomes people from the community who require supervised care on a daily basis. The programme is delivered in specially built premises, and clients can meet new friends and enjoy a range of experiences. Hot lunch and morning and afternoon tea are provided. Transport can be available.
139 on Union - Independent Living Apartments: Our small retirement village offers the opportunity to maintain independence and live with dignity and safety while knowing that support and nursing care is available if required.
